MSMS Baby Shower

Today my coworkers threw me a surprise baby shower! I was definitely surprised, but luckily I was wearing a really cute outfit. We celebrated with chocolate cake and punch (yum). I received a pack and play, activity gym, baby monitors, gorgeous homemade baby afghan, homemade thank you notes and baby announcements, TONS of Red Sox clothing, and many other helpful gadgets, adorable toys, and clothing. This just goes to show what a wonderful working environment I have. I was so overwhelmed by the generous and thoughtful spirit of the women (and the men) that I work with. It almost makes it hard to leave!

The best thing about being pregnant…

Jamie and I went to our first childbirth class this week. I really enjoyed it! There are ten couples in our class, all with due dates in July or August, so we have the makings of a great new moms class (Although I already know so many new moms and new moms-to-be that camaraderie seems like it will be easy to come by). It was nice to share and laugh and worry about the experience with other people.

We got a tour of the Labor and Delivery section, and also our recovery rooms. Both areas seemed very comfortable and inviting. I realized that I had been in the recovery rooms exactly five years ago to that night, when I visited my baby niece Anna Clare on her birth day: May 20, 2003.

One of the first things we did in our class was break into two groups: women and men. Each group had to discuss and fill out a worksheet: best things about being pregnant, worst things about being pregnant, biggest fears, etc. The women approached this task very differently than the men. Whereas the women wrote down everything everyone said, the men “discussed” the question and then wrote down “the best answer.” This became very amusing when the two groups were asked to report back to the larger group. When our instructor asked the women about the best part of being pregnant, our spokesperson said, “feeling the baby move, seeing the ultrasound for the first time…” and when Jamie (the spokesperson for the men) spoke, he said, “Having more junk food around the house.”

I always pictured how nice it would be to have a mom friend in the neighborhood, one I could push strollers around with...and now I do!

Cousins

Baby Milliken enjoyed spending quality time with his cousin Anna this weekend.

AND his soon-to-be cousin Baby Hehir! That's right...Mike and Tina are expecting a little one in November! Here's a photo of Anna with the moms-to-be:

$702 Road Trip

This past weekend, Baby Milliken went to his cousin Anna's 5th birthday party. The journey to the party was a little traumatic. Unfortunately, the muffler partially detached from my car when I was only thirty miles away from my brother's house AND my cell phone had died AND I was alone, so basically I was a pathetic crying pregnant woman on the shoulder of the highway until a nice state trooper pulled over and helped me out (amazing how cops suddenly become your best friends when you need them). The cop put me in touch with AAA and my family, and I was soon safely out of harm's way. But needless to say, I've decided to buy a cell phone charger for the car AND avoid solo trips.
Here's a photo of my shiny new muffler:

Welcome New Friends!

This was a busy week in Babyville. Congratulations to our friends Jen and Jordi on the birth of their baby girl, Josephine Lucia, born April 29.

And to our friends Leslie and Brian on the birth of their baby boy, Carter Michael, born April 23.

We're off to the Cape this weekend for our "Babymoon"...we're returning to Chatham, the site of our engagement just two years ago!
