In Loving Memory

Jamie’s grandmother passed away early yesterday morning.

Grandma Moore almost made it to her 92nd birthday, and she was an incredibly strong woman until the very end. This past Sunday, she enjoyed an Easter outing with family and close friends. On Thursday, she was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, which is when the doctors discovered that she had had a “silent heart attack.” Even two hours before her death, she told her daughter Jenny (Jamie’s mom) that she loved her.

When we told Grandma about Baby Milliken on Christmas Day, she clapped her hands together and looked up towards God, beaming away. I know she was most excited for her daughter Jenny (pictured above) to experience the joys of being a grandmother. I feel very blessed to have had Grandma Moore in my life, if but for a short time.

I received a birthday card from Grandma last week, which lovingly stated: “I know you and Jamie will be very good parents. Just trust in the Lord and all will go well. It will be an all new life, the three of you together. Take good care of yourself and have a wonderful birthday. May God hold you in the palm of His hand and take care of all your needs according to His will.”

Grandma Moore was a very spiritual woman and we know she is enjoying her reunion with her husband Edwin and of course, Jesus and God.

Need something to watch Monday nights?

I take a break from baby related entries to promote a show that I've been watching lately: New Amsterdam. Not only does it have something for everyone (it's part detective story/history/romance) but it also features, as one of its main characters, my cousin Erin's good friend Alexie Gilmore! The show is about John Amsterdam, who because of an ancient spell, is immortal. He solves mysteries while searching for "the one," his true soul mate who will make him mortal. Alexie's character, Dr. Sara Dillane, is "the one."

20 Weeks...halfway there!

Yesterday, I went to my second ultrasound, because in the first ultrasound (at 18 weeks) the ultrasound technician wasn't able to see all of Baby Milliken's spine. This ultrasound wasn't nearly as exciting , and was more "goal based" and "focused" than the first (i.e. no lingering over the images or laughing as Baby M nearly kicked himself in the head). In fact, I managed to doze off a bit in the darkened room, with the fans whirring, and the warm goo on my stomach...nevertheless, it was reassuring to see Baby M wiggle and hear that everything is "going great." Baby M weighs 12 ounces (how they figure that out, I haven't a clue), which is bigger than what the baby books average for 20 or 21 weeks (uh-oh, I had a feeling this would be a big baby) and his due date was adjusted to August 6th. (Same day as his Aunt Tina's birthday!)

In other news, tonight I'll be watching my alma matter Mount Saint Mary's take on the Tar Heels in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Yes, I know a 16 seed has never beaten a #1 seed, and they haven't really got a chance, but it is exciting nevertheless! Go Mount!

Hollywood's Late Summer Babies

I've always been interested in celebrities, so of course I am keeping track of the celebrities who are having babies! I've compiled a list of A list and B list (and even C list) celebrities who are having babies within the same month or so as I am. Anyone want to venture a guess as to which celebrity's baby will come closest to sharing an arrival date with Baby Milliken?

Congratulations Annika and Steve!

My good friends Annika and Steve welcomed their baby boy, Liam Orion, into the world today at 12:34 pm. Self proclaimed "nerds" who met as computer camp counselors, they are extremely pleased that Liam arrived on "Pi Day" 3.14. I also want to add that I won the baby pool with an exact guess on date, weight (8 lbs, 6 oz) and length (20 inches).

My best wishes go out to them and their adorable baby boy, a friend for Baby Milliken.

Another use for the body pillow

Jamie got me a body pillow so I can sleep comfortably on my side at night. But during the day, Sugar makes sure it gets used!

Week 18: Introducing our son!

Hello family and friends, and welcome to our blog!

Here are the very first pictures of our baby boy. It is a profile view, mostly of the face. In the second picture, you can also see an arm near his face.

I can't believe how much more real it is to see the baby move around in an ultrasound, and to know what the sex is. And I know it's way too early to start to feel this way, but I can't wait to meet the little guy!
